Yoga poses are known as asanas (physical poses), like Virabhadrasana. Sups offer greater benefits because holding poses on moving objects takes more effort.

Virabhadrasana yoga asanas require less muscular exercise than style yoga. The goal of SUP YOGA is to strengthen your muscles, reduce stress, and increase flexibility. SUP YOGA gets you out of your gym, house, or studio, practicing in harmony with nature to achieve greater well-being. Let's see how you can do Virabhadrasana Yoga while sup boarding on the WOWSEA Rainbow R1 board.

Warrior I Pose (Virabhadrasana I)

In mythology, Lord Shiva created Virabhadrasana, which is how this pose gets its name. It honors the feats of a legendary warrior with the asana Virabhadrasana I. The pose is therefore called Warrior 1. In addition to adding beauty to your workout, this asana is one of the most graceful asanas in yoga. All you have to do is raise your arms to the sky as you inhale in the high lunge pose. If you are facing forward, your front foot should be almost parallel to your back foot. When you stretch your arms towards the sky, engage your abs, contract your legs, and press your hips down.

While practicing, make sure you lift your pubis toward your navel and lengthen your tail bone toward the floor. Continue lifting and descending these two bones as you bend your knee, keeping the top of your pelvis as parallel as possible to the ground.

    The Mythology behind Virabhadrasana I

Virabhadra relates a story in which the forceful pastor Daksha performed a great Yagna (ritual sacrifice) but failed to invite her husband, Shiva, and youngest daughter Sati. The supreme ruler of the universe. When Sati learned about the Yagna, she decided to go alone. Upon her arrival, Sati got into an argument with her father. "Since you gave me this body, I'd rather not be associated with it," she said to her father to withstand his insults. She threw herself into the fire. When he heard about Sati's death, Shiva was devastated.

As a powerful warrior rose from the ground, he pulled out a lock of his hair and beat it into the ground. The warrior Virabhadra was named by Shiva and instructed him to go to the Yagna and destroy Daksha and everyone with him.

    • Virabhadra's first aspect, Virabhadrasana I, depicts his arrival from under the earth wielding swords in both hands.
    • Virabhadrasana II is his second aspect, in which he views Daksha, his opponent.
    • Virabhadrasana III decapitates Daksha with his sword in his third aspect, moving swiftly and precisely.

Virabhadra then causes a rout at the Yagna when Shiva arrives. Virabhadra is absorbed back into Shiva's form, and Hara, the ravisher, is transformed. Shiva gives Daksha's body the head of a goat, which revives him, filled with sorrow and compassion. Meanwhile, Sati returns to life.

Yoga involves asanas (physical poses). Yoga poses can cultivate inner strength, enhance your balance, strengthen postural muscles, increase long-term flexibility, relax nervous/joint/muscular tension, control your breath, massage your internal organs, improve blood circulation, and enhance performance in different sports.

The extra effort required while on the paddleboard will make the benefits of practicing asanas that require strong muscular engagement even greater.

Whether you are trying to get your postural muscles in sync, improve your balance, get a flatter stomach, or get a better balance using the water and board, they will prove to be your greatest allies.

On a paddleboard, you can even practice Virabhadrasana. You do not need to engage any muscles during these asanas. During yoga, you learn to relax your nervous system, breathe deeply, and focus on improving your flexibility and performance in other sports. SUP yoga offers the advantage of finding greater well-being as you practice in harmony with nature away from the house, studio, or gym."
